About the Department

Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (VP-ITC)

Device description:
Isothermal Titration Calorimetry is used to measure reactions between small molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids. From a single determination, the thermodynamic profile of the interaction can be obtained – i.e. the stoichiometry value, binding constant, enthalpy and entropy. The principle of the method is to monitor thermal changes during the interaction, when the titrant is injected from the microcalorimeter needle into the space of the measuring cell containing the macromolecule sample.

Key features:

  • direct methods can determine binding constants in the range 102 up to 107 M–1
  • higher values of binding constants than 107 M–1 can be determined using competitive methods
  • temperature conditions from 1 to 80 °C
  • ph in the range from 2 to 12
  • volume of the measuring cell 1.44 ml
  • volume of the syringe 282.32 mL
