Laboratories & Equipment

Each of our departments owns the means and spaces for creating their research. Therefore there are dozens highly specialized laboratories equipped with various modern machines and devices. Just as wide the range of our technological research goals is, as long is the list of our equipment.

POLYMER & MATERIAL TECHNOLOGIES

  • Applied Surface Physics and Biomaterials Development
    • Designing new devices for adjustments and finishing of material surface.
    • Developing new materials that can be used for tissue engineering (automotive, aerospace and rubber industry- mold design)
  • Physical and biophysical chemistry
      • Main focus: molecular dynamics simulation of biomolecules, study of thermodynamics of protein structure changes and reactivity under high pressure.
      • Developing devices for the manipulation of individual biomolecules by the so-called “optical trap” method for fluorescence microscopy, which allows to measure the movements of molecules in nanometer scale.

     

  • Material analysis and structure laboratory
    • Characterizing the material properties of the polymer and the utility properties of the prepared products. Concerning all- the mechanical, physical and chemical behavior of materials.
  • Laboratory of processing technologies of plastics, rubber and natural polymers

FOOD SCIENCE

  • Laboratory of Liquid Chromatography
    • Focusing primarily on the analysis of the total content of amino acids, free amino acids, sugars, biogenic amines and selected antioxidant substances.
  • Gastronomy laboratory
    • Methods used: Extraction, infusion, emulsification, suspension, degassing and rapid barrel maturation, titration. Gravimetric, potentiometric, spectrometric, polarimetric methods and analysis of the basic food components and antioxidant activity of food.
  • Laboratory of food analysis
    • Measuring moisture, ash, coarse protein, lipids, fiber, digestibility, microwave decomposition and subsequent determination of mineral elements (ICP-MS).
    • Determination of HPLC-DAD profile, caffeine, chlorophyll, vitamins B, C, E and D, total flavonoids, polyphenols and anthocyanins.
    • Methods for the determination of carotenoids, artificial sweeteners or preservatives are set.
    • Investigation of anantioxidant activity by spectrophotometric methods and chemiluminescence.
  • Laboratory of Elemental Analysis
    • Determining trace and ultrastop quantities of elements of a periodic table in various matrix objects using ICP-MS inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
  • Laboratory of meat production technology
    • Especially minced meat products and ham with different spraying, as well as fermented meat products.
  • Laboratory of Dairy Production Technology
  • Laboratory of Pastry Technology
    • Special focus on gluten free products.
  • Beverage Technology Laboratory
    • Main focus on beers, fruit wines and ciders.
  • Laboratory of Physical Properties of Foods
      • Focused on textural profile analysis and on rheometry of liquid, semi-solid and solid raw materials and food.

PROCESS ENGINEERING

  • Metrology Laboratories
    • We can accurately measure hardness and microhardness, pull, pressure, bending, impact strength at temperatures from -70 ° C to + 290 ° C. We also deal with surface and structural properties such as surface quality, curvature, or flatness. Metallographic testing, DMA, ITT or destructive crash tests with high-speed camera will not stop us either.

COSMETIC INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGIES

 

  • Preparation and characterization of acylglycerol type emulsifiers and emulsion systems for use in cosmetics
  • Testing the efficacy of cosmetic products.
  • Determination of hydration, TEWL, pH, grease, elasticity, SPF and UVA-PF cosmetics.
  • 3D skin surface scanning.
  • Measurement of transsepidermal penetration of nanoparticles in cosmetic products.
  • Microbiological and sensory evaluation of cosmetic products.
  • Characterization and biological effects of essential oils in cosmetic products.
  • Interaction of surfactants with skin proteins.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

  • Biodegradation
    • Studying of biodegradation of synthetic substances and materials in water, soil and anaerobic environment and under composting conditions.
    • Current focus: polymeric materials and polymer-related materials (e.g., plasticizers and other auxiliaries).
  • Environmental technologies, analysis and monitoring
    • Research of technologies for the stabilization / solidification of hazardous industrial wastes.
    • Developing the technologies for removing xenobiotics from the environment through abiotic pathways such as electrochemical oxidation. An integral part of the research in these areas is chemical analysis and monitoring of environmental pollution.
  • Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology
    • Study of substances with antimicrobial effects on the growth of microorganisms, including the possibility of inhibiting undesirable microflora in food.
    • Research of decarboxylase activity of selected groups of microorganisms and the detection of biogenic amines in food.
    • Food microbiology- studies of lactic acid bacteria, enterobacteria and other microorganisms affecting the quality of dairy and meat products.

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

  • Main focus on the synthesis of organic compounds with a yet unrecognized structure (especially heterocyclic compounds and compounds containing adamantane, diamond or cuban skeleton)
  • Studying the reactivity of the prepared compounds, examining their possible biological effects, and the ability to form stable supramolecular host-host complexes.
  • Currently there are three research groups at the Institute that deal with the following topics:
    • Preparation of new quinolinedione derivatives | Molecular rearrangements of quinolindones and their derivatives | Modification of 3-aminoquinolinediones with cyanate and isothiocyanate
    • Reactivity and synthetic use of quinoline-2,4-diones | Synthesis and reactivity of 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives | Synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole compounds in a molecule
    • Synthesis and study of supramolecular behavior of model ligands for macrocycles based on cucurbiturils and cyclodextrins | Synthesis and study of supramolecular properties of multivariate ligands with cationic hydrocarbon binding sites |Host-host chemistry in polymer systems | Synthesis of purine derivatives and analogues thereof | Fatty acid analysis in food matrices
